My Night-Time Routine

My Night-Time Routine

With university deadlines looming and stress levels rising, I find that it’s more important than ever that I have a good night-time routine to ensure that I get a decent night’s sleep! These are the things I do to help me relax and de-stress ready for bed – which must work because according to my Fitbit I’ve been having better sleep than usual!

1). Pyjamas and fluffy socks
Getting into my cosiest pyjamas and my ultra-fluffy socks feels like heaven at the end of a busy day – even if the end of the day is at 3pm… it’s never too earlier for pjs, right?

2). Turn off gadgets
Now, I must admit that I often don’t listen to my own advice as I can never resist having a last minute scroll of twitter before I go to asleep (which can last ages!). When I actually do turn my phone and TV off before bed I do feel more relaxed, especially when I’m enjoying a good book!

3). A cup of camomile tea
I always make a nice cup of camomile tea before getting into bed, it’s really good at releasing all my stress and helps me wind down for the night!

4). Grab a good book!
I love reading a good book in bed, it’s nice to escape into a different world for a bit and take your mind off everything. I find that reading makes me really sleep as well, I’ve often fallen asleep whilst still reading only to wake up when my book hits the floor!

5). Lavender
I adore the smell of lavender! I use my trusty Feather & Down pillow spray, it’s super relaxing and helps me drift off to sleep.

6). LUSH – Sleepy Lotion
I swear by this lotion – it’s literally magic! My dad actually bought it for me when I was struggling to sleep and it’s been a lifesaver! It smells INCREDIBLE and even leaves my skin feeling super soft and hydrated! I just apply a small amount to my arms (a little goes a long way!) but you can use it as an all over body lotion.

7). Eye Mask
This is a recent addition to my night-time routine, as my uni room is directly opposite the fire station and the blinds are useless! At first, I wasn’t very comfortable, it made me feel slightly claustrophobic but once I got used to it, its been great!

p.s. what do you find helps you get a good night’s sleep?

I always love reading posts like this! Definitely need to pick up on your tips. Especially turning off my phone, I do notice the different those nights that I do. I love this post, your PJs and socks look very cosy! Definitely perfect for this time of year.

I love Sleepy, although I haven’t actually found it helps me to sleep much better – I get to sleep a lot easier, but it doesn’t help me to sleep through the night which is actually my issue! 🙈 I’m determined to get more into a nighttime routine, and turn off my gadgets a lot earlier! I definitely need to take your advice.. 😂🙊

    • everythingchessie November 1, 2017 / 9:02 pm

Oh dear!🙈 Haha, yeah sometimes I need to take my own advice as well and switch off before bed!😂

  3. Jess October 29, 2017 / 4:54 pm

Loved this post! I’ve noted each point down as they sound like a good idea! I defo spend too long scrolling through social media before I sleep and have been neglecting my books but this post has given me motivation to get back to a good routine! I’ve also been debating getting a Fitbit as it’s pricey, would you recommend it? X

    • everythingchessie November 1, 2017 / 9:04 pm

Thank you! It depends what you want to use it for but I would definitely recommend getting one if you want to track sleep or exercise! I saved up my clubcard points to put towards mine so it was much less expensive!x

I love getting into nice fluffy pyjamas especially if you’re getting into freshly washed bed sheets as well, there’s nothing better than getting all snug. I need to try chamomile tea! I’ve heard amazing things about Lush’s Sleepy but I don’t think I need anymore help with falling asleep, once I get cosy I’m usually out for the count anyway haha x

    • everythingchessie November 1, 2017 / 9:06 pm

Ohh you really need to try chamomile, I tend to go for flavoured chamomile as it tastes slight better and sweeter! Haha wish I was like that, I usually lie there worrying about everything haha x

Fluffy socks and a good book are definitely essential for me as well! I’ve been using a sleep mask for like 5 years now as my room is the first one sunlight hits. At first I was only supposed to use it in the Summer but then it became a habit :)x

Haha, yeah I’m not sure I could wear mine without needing it! It still feels strange at night sometimes when I wake up in the night and wonder why everything is black 😂x

Really liked this advice – I’m definitely going to have to try out the Lush lotion because I have issues falling asleep most of the time!

    • everythingchessie November 1, 2017 / 9:10 pm

Thank you, yes you should! It’s really good! Let me know how you get on if you buy it ☺️

  7. Alice October 30, 2017 / 8:05 pm

I really want to get myself an eye mask as my blinds are useless at keeping out the light so I’m always waking up super early! I really wish I liked the smell of Lavender as I feel like there are so many good sleeping products out there scented with it but I just can’t seem to take to it 🙁 that Lush cream has had absolutely amazing reviews all round too, I haven’t heard a bad word said about it! I haven’t really found anything that makes me sleep well other than a glass of red wine yet (lol whoops!)

Awh no! That’s a shame, everything that is sleep related has lavender in it as well so it must be a real struggle finding something! 😔 Yeah, I love a bit of Lush! Hahah, nothing wrong with that!xx

This looks like the most perfect and cosy way to relax after a long day. Getting into pjs or cosy clothes is my most favourite thing after taking my make up off! The sleep lotion looks like a must have – I do have trouble going sleep sometimes so will try this to see if it will trigger off my ZZZzz..

    • everythingchessie November 1, 2017 / 9:14 pm

Yeah, definitely try it! Let me know how you get on ☺️

  9. Julia November 1, 2017 / 8:06 pm

I love this post! I also think it’s good to turn off your phone and other gadgets before sleep. Unfortunately, I can’t enjoy a cosy time with a book because my boyfriend likes to watch TV before bed. I swear I won’t agree on a TV in the bedroom in our next place. It just changes everything and can be so distracting!

Awh no!! Haha, you’ll just have to demand that he turns it off so you can read every now and again 😂xx

  10. Quirine November 2, 2017 / 1:48 pm

Really cute photos! I actually have rarely trouble falling asleep unless I really have something on my mind, then I always try to completely relax and focus my thoughts towards one thing (I guess that’s called meditation, haha). That usually helps! But the Lush stuff sounds SO good though

    • everythingchessie November 6, 2017 / 9:23 pm

Thank you! Awh, you’re lucky haha, I’ve heard meditation is really good! It’s soooo good, you should definitely try it – even if you don’t have trouble sleeping, it smells amazing and is actually a great moisturiser haha

this is one of my favorite posts, i love your blog so much! I really want to try lush sleep and the feather and down products, chamomile tea is a lifesaver as well <3 xxx

  12. Leslie November 2, 2017 / 10:23 pm

I want to try that pillow spray! I feel like that would definitely help me with my sleeping issues

  13. Lily November 4, 2017 / 9:56 am

I really need to incorporate some of these steps into my routine. Turning gadgets off is my worst, I have my phone + laptop on right up until I’m sleeping. Also, I need to use my LUSH sleepy more, I’m just too lazy to put it on haha. And finally, I need to get myself an eye mask – I’ve been meaning to for months!

I need to follow my own advice more because lately I struggle to get off twitter when I’m in bed haha! Primark do really good, cheap eye masks!

  14. Alicia November 4, 2017 / 3:23 pm

This post gave me so many cosy vibes! I love the photography also, I may actually copy your bed time routine because it sounds so ideal for me, from tea to the cosy pyjamas! Also your dad is so sweet for getting you the lush sleepy! I’m going to be getting my mum it for Christmas as she struggles to sleep I hope it works xx

    • everythingchessie November 6, 2017 / 9:27 pm

Thank you! Haha I know, I can just imagine him going into Lush looking totally lost and confused! Awh, I hope so too!xx

  15. Alys George November 5, 2017 / 10:17 am

This is a lovely post! Love the accompanying pics! I’m a terrible sleeper. I toss and turn and sleep eludes me till 1 or 2 hours after I’ve hit the bed. Biggest enemy is my phone, I know. Sigh!
The PJs look so cosy and the lush lotion is tempting!

    • everythingchessie November 14, 2017 / 2:29 pm

Thank you! Awh I hate that, hope you get a good night’s sleep soon!
